I have very close ties to L&M. I worked for them back in the late '70's early 80's, it was my first full time job. I was the 'receptionist' working a very massive phone switchboard and meeting clients. My father, Arthur King, worked on many notable projects for L&M. He is responsible for the coinage of Citgo (City Service Gas), Delco Batteries to name a couple. During the Vietnam war, L&M had DuPont as a client. I know my father struggled greatly with this. It actually caused him to quit the company, as DuPont was in charge of making napalm.
As a young girl my father and I had wonderful times 'dreaming up' or 'generating' names. It was a game we played, well before the advent of computers. I was fortunate enough to be around some of the finest minds of the time....and actually was hired as a per diem consultant to dream up names on a few occasions. One of those names became a line of shoes geared to girls of my age group 'Mushrooms'. They are still being sold today.
I am sure that many of the folks whom I remember are now passed on, but I will continue to cherish the time I spent with this company. It was indeed a prvilege and has provided me with many a late night story.
